Church Planting

Do you have interest in helping to explore the possibilities of planting/starting new churches in the Kansas City area?

There are exploratory groups already forming; click here to find out more.

The District supports a wide variety of organizations that have a significant impact on those they serve in the Kansas City area:

Multiethnic Ministry

  • Sacred Ground Haskell:
Lutheran Indian Ministries (LIM) is working to share the love of Jesus with students in the Native community at Haskell Indian Nation University in Lawrence. Sacred Ground Haskell is a Community Center run by LIM that offers a variety of support services to students and the Native community, which create opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus’ love for all.
  • Lutheran Urban Mission Agency (LUMA):
LUMA helps inner-city churches with the necessities of life including Worship and Bible study. The organization has partnered with Blessings Abound to provide assistance to African refugees and also provides financial support for the ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, which offers Spanish-language worship services and ESL classes.
  • Immanuel Lutheran, Kansas City, KS:
Immanuel is reaching out to the Hispanic community by offering ESL classes and a food pantry (open every Tuesday), which provide additional opportunities to share the Gospel. Church leaders are working to promote the spiritual growth of the congregation through new Bible studies and sermons that are more intentionally focused on basic Bible teaching.

Campus Ministry

The Lutheran campus ministries at Kansas colleges and universities provide a “church home away from home” for students. Campus ministry leaders understand the challenges students face and are committed to providing them with the support they need, whether the students are longtime Lutherans or new to the faith.

If you or someone you know is heading off to college or already there, you are encouraged to look into one of the LCMS U chapters by clicking here. You are also invited to complete the student contact form at the end of the page. When you submit the form, someone from the district will help you connect with a new church, wherever you might be headed.

You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
